Guaranteed Within 24 Hours

When you call, our team works to get you seen as quickly as possible. You will always speak with someone who can help, advise you on immediate next steps, and get you scheduled without delay.

Accurate Diagnosis First

Dental pain has many possible causes. Treating the symptom without identifying the source rarely resolves the problem. Dr. Olivero conducts a focused clinical assessment and uses digital imaging to establish an accurate diagnosis before any treatment begins.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Taking the right steps before your appointment can make a meaningful difference in the outcome of your treatment.

Severe Toothache

Rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss around the affected tooth to rule out food or debris as the cause. Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth or gum tissue. Take over-the-counter pain medication as directed and call O Dental immediately.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Handle the tooth by the crown only. Rinse it gently with water if it is dirty and do not scrub the root surface. If possible, place it back in the socket or keep it moist in a small container of milk or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately. Time is critical.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. If there is swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of your face. Avoid chewing on that side and call O Dental as soon as possible.

Lost Crown or Filling

Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. Over-the-counter dental cement, available at most pharmacies, can temporarily protect the tooth or reseat a crown until your appointment.

Dental Abscess

Do not attempt to drain the abscess. Take over-the-counter pain medication as directed and call O Dental immediately. If swelling is affecting your ability to breathe or swallow, go to your nearest emergency room.

Soft Tissue Injury

Rinse gently with warm salt water and apply light pressure with clean gauze to control bleeding. If bleeding does not subside within 15 to 20 minutes, seek emergency medical care.

What to Expect During Your Emergency Visit

Step 1

When you call

Describe your symptoms, when they started, and your level of pain. This helps our team assess urgency and advise you appropriately before your appointment.

Step 2

Your arrival

You are taken to your private dental suite promptly. If you are in significant pain, Dr. Olivero addresses your comfort before moving into the diagnostic process.

Step 3

Your exam

Dr. Olivero conducts a focused clinical assessment of the affected area, including digital X-rays and intraoral imaging where needed. Every finding is reviewed with you before any treatment begins.

Step 4

Immediate treatment

Where possible, treatment is completed at the same appointment. This may include temporary restoration, abscess drainage, extraction, or medication to manage pain and infection.

Step 5

Your follow-up plan

If additional treatment is required, Dr. Olivero outlines a clear plan before you leave. Every step is explained so you know what comes next and what to expect during recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accommodate anxious patients during emergency visits?

Yes. Dr. Olivero approaches emergency appointments with particular attentiveness to patient comfort. Laughing gas is available for patients who benefit from additional support, and treatment does not proceed until you are comfortable and ready.

Will my emergency visit be rushed?

No. Emergency appointments at O Dental follow the same clinical standard as every other visit. Dr. Olivero takes the time to assess the situation thoroughly, identify the underlying cause, and develop a treatment plan before you leave.

Does O Dental accept financing for emergency visits?

Yes. O Dental accepts dental financing and will review your coverage before treatment begins. Flexible financing through CareCredit and Cherry is also available. Our team walks you through your financial options before any treatment proceeds.

Will I be seen by Dr. Olivero for my emergency appointment?

Yes. Dr. Olivero personally conducts every exam at O Dental, including emergency visits. You will always see the same doctor regardless of the nature of your appointment.

What if my crown or filling falls out?

The tooth beneath is vulnerable to damage without its restoration. Call O Dental as soon as possible. In the meantime, avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. Over-the-counter dental cement can temporarily reseat a crown until your appointment.

Can a broken tooth wait?

It depends on the severity. A minor chip with no pain can typically wait for a scheduled appointment. A break that exposes the inner layer of the tooth, causes significant pain, or creates sharp edges that are cutting your soft tissue needs prompt attention. Call our office and describe the situation so we can advise you accordingly.

What should I do if I have a dental abscess?

A dental abscess is a bacterial infection that can spread without prompt treatment. Symptoms include throbbing pain, swelling, fever, and a bad taste in the mouth. Call O Dental immediately and do not attempt to drain the abscess yourself. If swelling is affecting your ability to breathe or swallow, go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently with water. If possible, place it back in the socket or keep it moist by storing it between your cheek and gum or in a small container of milk. Call O Dental immediately. The sooner a knocked-out tooth is evaluated, the better the chance of saving it.

What qualifies as a dental emergency?

Significant pain, swelling, bleeding, a broken or displaced tooth, a lost restoration, or a dental abscess all warrant emergency care. If you are unsure, call our office and describe your symptoms. Our team will advise you on the appropriate next step.

How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?

O Dental guarantees emergency exam availability within 24 hours. Our team assesses your situation when you call and schedules you as promptly as possible based on the severity of your symptoms.
