Why Dentistry

Dr. Elba Olivero decided she wanted to be a dentist when she was 10 years old. It was not a passing interest. It never changed. What drew her in was the understanding that oral health affects far more than teeth.

She recognized early on that dental problems can affect someone's quality of life. A toothache can take a person completely offline. Missing teeth can change the way a person eats, speaks, and carries themselves.

A smile someone is embarrassed by is a smile they learn to hide, and somewhere along the way, the habit becomes part of who they think they are. Feeling self-conscious about a smile can quietly affect confidence over time. She knew she wanted to be the person who changed that.

More About Dr. Olivero

Her Education and Training

Growing up in Cary, North Carolina, Dr. Olivero earned her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in Boone before completing her dental education at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill.

During dental school, she was elected President of Delta Sigma Delta, the dental fraternity, and completed a month-long mission trip to Malawi, Africa, her first of several, and an experience that deepened an instinct she already had: that access to care is something worth fighting for.

She has since been a part of additional mission trips abroad, most recently spending a week in Guatemala providing urgent care to underserved communities. That work continues, and she has every intention of keeping it going.

After graduating, Dr. Olivero relocated to Annapolis, Maryland, and spent the years that followed practicing on the Eastern Shore. The patients here are straightforward and hardworking. They come in ready to listen, ready to trust, and genuinely interested in their own health. Over nearly a decade, she built relationships that felt less like a patient base and more like a community. O Dental is the natural next step in that chapter.

Clinical Practice

In the years since she began practicing, Dr. Olivero has pursued her training with the same seriousness that drew her to dentistry in the first place. She is a graduate of The Pankey Institute, one of the most prestigious continuing education programs in dentistry, and holds memberships in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Maryland State Dental Association.

Her clinical focus spans general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry, with a particular passion for the cases where the outcome is more than clinical, where a patient walks out looking different and feeling great.

What Drives Her

"I have seen patients totally transform before my eyes," she says. "To go from scared and embarrassed to confident and smiling — that is what truly brings me joy in this profession."

That is what O Dental is all about. Dr. Olivero does not see dentistry as a series of procedures. She sees it as a relationship, one built on time, honesty, and the kind of care that accounts for the whole person sitting in the chair, not just the teeth.

Every treatment plan she creates is shaped around the individual in front of her: their concerns, their goals, their life outside this office. She takes the time to explain what she sees, answer every question, and make sure patients leave not just healthier, but genuinely confident in the decisions they made.

Outside the Office

Outside of the office, she spends her time on the water and traveling whenever she can. She lives in Annapolis, and she is looking forward to welcoming you.
